Microsoft Claims Sony Will Launch PS5 Slim & PS5 Pro Later This Year
By Alleef Ashaari|July 5, 2023|0 Comment
It seems that Microsoft may have spilled the beans on Sony’s future plans. According to court documents from the recent Microsoft Xbox Activision FTC trial, Microsoft reveals that Sony is set to launch new PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro consoles later in 2023.
The PS5 Slim will allegedly be the same price as the current PS5 Digital Edition, which is US$399 or RM2069.
The statement by Microsoft reads:
“PlayStation likewise sells a less expensive Digital Edition for $399.99, and is expected to release a PlayStation 5 Slim later this year at the same reduced price point.
PlayStation, meanwhile, currently offers two different versions of the PlayStation 5, one with a Blu-Ray player for physical media (Standard) and one without (Digital), and is anticipated to release further differentiated Pro and Slim models in the near future.
Sony is also anticipated to release a handheld version of PlayStation 5 later this year for under US$300.”
The handheld version of PS5 probably refers to the recently-announced Project Q.
Project Q is a dedicated device that enables players to stream any game from their PS5 console using Remote Play over Wi-Fi. It has an 8-inch HD screen and all of the buttons and features of the DualSense wireless controller. It can run games at up to 1080p and 60fps over Wi-Fi and will feature both the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback of the DualSense. However, games you play on the Project Q must first be installed on a PS5 console itself.
The PS5 was originally launched in November 2020, which means that the console is almost three years old at this point in time.
At the time of writing, Sony has yet to officially respond to Microsoft’s allegations.
In other related news to come out of the Xbox FTC trial, it was revealed that the upcoming Bethesda MachineGames Indiana Jones game will be an Xbox exclusive and that Starfield was originally planned for the PS5 before Microsoft purchased Bethesda. Microsoft also expects that the next-gen consoles will arrive in 2028.
