New Zombie Survival Reality Show Shuffles Into Netflix August 2023

Netflix has confirmed its upcoming zombie-themed Korean reality show, Zombieverse is coming to the streaming platform this 2023, teaming up with Kakoa Entertainment.

The giant company has captivated viewers following the former success of its zombie-themed series: Kingdom (2019) and All of Us Are Dead (2022). Seeking to expand even further, Zombieverse might just scale things up a notch. In this reality show, survivors must work together to find water, food, transportation, and shelter. They are assigned daily tasks that must be completed to earn the supplies they need. If one of them gets “bitten”, they are out of the game.

The official description reads:

In Seoul, where a zombie virus outbreak has run amok, who will outwit the undead in the face of challenging quests and come out alive?

Prolific directors, Park Jin-kyung of MBC’s iconic entertainment show “My Little Television” and Moon Sang-don of “Hey! First Time in Korea?” will helm the series. Meanwhile, the production team behind ‘All of Us Are Dead’ will be in charge of the art direction. Whereas, the choreographers from ‘Kingdom’ will train the selected “zombie” extras in giving a full horror experience for contestants and viewers alike.

Stars of the pilot season will feature notable Korean entertainers such as actress Lee Si Young (Sweet Home) and Noh Hong-chul (The Hungry and The Hairy). The series also stars comedian Park Na-rae, rapper DinDin, Tsuki from Kpop group Billlie, former Doosan Bears pitcher Yoo Hee-kwan, Kim Jin-young of “Single’s Inferno 2,” urologist Hong Seong-wu, and TV celebrities Jonathan and Patricia Yiombi.

Director Park said the series began with a simple question, “How would people react if zombies appeared in the real world?”

In a recent Netflix press release, Park cited:

“There will be new zombies, survivors and unique scenes, which have not been seen in the existing zombie-themed projects. The likes of bumper car-steering or swing boat-riding zombies will entertain the viewers to their fullest.”

Zombieverse, an eight-part series, premieres worldwide exclusively on Netflix on 8 August 2023.
