New Mortal Kombat Legends Movie Spotlights Johnny Cage & The 80s

We’ve had quite a few Mortal Kombat animated movies from Warner Bros. for the past few years, from Scorpion’s Revenge to one focused on Kenshi. Now, we’re getting another one featuring the series’ ego-centric movie star inspired by one Jean Claude Van Damme.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match is officially announced, and it’s a feature-length animated film focused on Mortal Kombat kharacter Johnny Cage. It’s set in the 80s and in Hollywood, Los Angeles, and brings back Joel McHale as Johnny Cage. Check out the full voice cast below, featuring Jennifer “Dirty Dancing” Grey, Kelly Hu, and the late Gilbert Gottfried.

  • Joel McHale as Johnny Cage
  • Jennifer Grey as Herself
  • Dusan Brown as Chuck Golden
  • Grey DeLisle (Teen Titans Go!) as Kia
  • Robin Atkin Downes (Luck, DC Showcase: Constantine – The House of Mystery) as Shinnok
  • Zehra Fazal (Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe) as Jataaka
  • Gilbert Gottfried (Aladdin, Royal Crackers) as David Doubldy
  • Kelly Hu (Arrow, X2: X-Men United) as Ashrah
  • Matt Yang King (Elemental) as Concierge
  • Phil LaMarr (Futurama) as Brian Van Jones
  • Matthew Mercer (Resident Evil: Death Island) as Director/Bully
  • Dave B. Mitchell (Call of Duty franchise) as Raiden
  • Armen Taylor (Justice Society: World War II) as Master Boyd

And yes, the trailer below is so knee-deep with 80s font and colour, you’d swear WB Animation has a template somewhere.

Mortal Kombat Legends: Cage Match will be out on 17 October 2023.
