Legendary UK Programmer John Gibson Passed Away
By Jonathan ToyadVerified|July 25, 2023|0 Comment
This week’s a sad one for techheads and game fans: UK programmer John Gibson has died.
The legendary programmer is known for his time at Psygnosis and Sony. In recent times, he was mostly known for the Motorstorm games and DriveClub for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles. He was also known during the PS2 era for his programming work on WRC 4 and WRC: Rally Evolved.
Back in 1990, he was known for programming Psygnosis games like Microcosm and Sentient. However, his career started way before the 90s; he self-taught himself to code on a ZX81 computer, and joined game company Imagine. He designed critically-acclaimed games like Molar Maul, Zzoom, and Stonkers.
? We’re sad to learn that John Gibson has died. He was one of the really early pioneers with Imagine and enormously respected by his peers, who’d call him Grandad:

Woke up to find out my old coworker, bass player, friend and creator of some of the first-ever home computer games, John Gibson has left us.
I'll never forget you gleefully telling a producer to "fuck off!" as you rightfully left the office on time..
