TMNT Shredder’s Revenge: Dimension Shellshock DLC Survival Mode Guide

Last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle 2D action beat-em-up game, Shredder’s Revenge, turned heads and gave players a reason to do couch co-op offline multiplayer parties. It’s a fun beat-em-up with slick controls, lovely aesthetics, and fun fighting system.

The game’s new DLC, Dimension Shellshock, will be out this week and features a brand-new mode called Survival Mode. Basically, the Turtles, Splinter, April O’Neil, Casey Jones, and two newcomers to the game venture across the multiverse to collect crystals and fight an end boss.

The two newcomers? Well, they’re actually veterans in the TMNT canon -Usagi Yojimbo the ronin hare and Karai the top Foot Clan lieutenant with slick lightning moves. The new mode and these two are more than enough to justify many folks to pay a little extra for good content, especially one that adds more replayability.

Here’s a quick guide on how Survival Mode works, and how you can ace it.

TMNT Shredder’s Revenge DLC Survival Mode Overview

Here’s what you do in Survival Mode:

  • Select a character. This mode is either single player or multiplayer; more people means more fun!
  • You’ll be going through different rounds set in different Dimensions, beating up waves of enemies per stage. When you beat a round, you get a choice between two powerups you can carry over.
  • Each round will have randomized enemy placement, enemy types, different traps, and the occasional boss or two.
  • Sometimes, crystal shards will drop. Collect them. If you collect the max amount stated on the bottom right, you have formed a Dimension Crystal and you then teleport to the next Dimension and the challenge level bumps up.
  • After you collect 5 Dimension Crystal, you will teleport to the last Dimension where you fight the master of the void.
  • Once you defeat the endboss, you can either end the run and see the Survival Mode ending, or venture deeper for more rewards and a high score.
  • If you die, you end the run and start all over again. However, you will unlock new permanent powerups and new colour palettes for your selected character. So death isn’t the end; you will get stronger with each finished/unfinished run.

Survival Mode Modifiers & Perks

Modifiers List

These appear at random at any stage. Be careful as some of these are more dangerous than others.

  • Faster Enemies: Enemies move faster.
  • Exploding Enemies: Enemies explode when knocked out.
  • Low Gravity. You and your enemies jump higher than usual.
  • Bouncing Enemies: Enemies bounce back stronger when thrown to the sides of the screen.
  • Missile Attacks: Missiles straight from Dimension X rain down on the level.
  • Gale Force: The wind blows at intervals.

Perks List

You can get these exclusive power-ups at the end of a stage. These are randomized.

  • Turbo Teens: Gain a temporary acceleration matching your hit string! Last 3 turns.
  • Rude Dude: Attack power is doubled, but so is damage! Last 3 rounds.
  • Healthy Living: Gain 3 HP at the start of every wave, but no party pizza for the perk’s duration. Last 6 rounds.
  • Totally Rad: Activates Radical Mode and keeps it active until being hit! Radical!
  • Hurt N Heal: Damage received is doubled, but you fully heal once perk is over! Last 3 rounds.
  • Sushi Chef: A Sushi plate appears for every 10 successive combo hits. Delicious! Last 3 rounds.
  • Teletaunt: Become invulnerable while taunting and teleport to a random location. Whoa! Last 3 rounds.
  • Parasite Drain: Gain HP from defeating enemies, but HP depletes over time! Last 3 rounds.
  • Boss Canister: Transform into one of the three bosses -Rocksteady, Bebop, The Shredder- each with their own OP moves and specials. They have a separate life bar, so they technically count as an extra life.

Survival Mode Tips

  • If given the choice, prioritize Health, Boss Canisters, and then Crystals. Anything that acts as a second life will help up your survivability in this mode.
  • Survival Mode is meant for those who beat the game, so don’t attempt this if this is your first time playing the game.
  • The most useful Perks are: Teletaunt, Parasite Drain, Rude Dude. Teletaunt makes you invincible while taunting, so free Super meter for 3 rounds. Parasite Drain may deplete your life, but there’s going to be a lot of enemies for you to defeat for the most part. Rude Dude is useful in clearing mobs quick and does force you to use the evade button moreso than usual.
