New 2.5D Hack-And-Slash Slave Zero X Sets To Consoles & PC In February 2024

Publisher Ziggurat Interactive and developer Poppy Works have announced an upcoming 2.5D hack-and-slash biopunk game, Slave Zero X.

Based on the trailers, Slave Zero X looks like an ideal blend of nostalgic gameplay from a bygone era of violent, tough games for home consoles with today’s tastes set in a 2.5D pixel graphic world. Players assume the role of a vengeful warrior with the sole purpose of overthrowing the oppressive rule of the Sovereign Khan in the dystopian Megacity S1-9. The game is set four years before the events of Slave Zero, providing an intriguing glimpse into a world where technologically advanced machines called Slaves are harnessed as formidable instruments of warfare.

A secret band of warriors known as The Guardians seek to prevent the unleashing of biomecha upon the world. However, one swordsman among their ranks, Shou, has a different approach. He plans to utilize the enemy’s weapon against them by merging with a stolen Slave Unit Prototype. This transformation will turn Shou into a formidable Devil, driven by the relentless pursuit of eliminating a false God.

The game boasts a range of exciting features that centre around intense combat and a diverse array of gameplay mechanics. Players can engage in swift swordplay, using agility and precision to take down foes. Additionally, they can employ explosive ordnance to create chaos and devastation on the battlefield. The inclusion of stylish combos adds complexity and satisfaction to the gameplay, allowing players to unleash devastating attacks upon their enemies.

Flexibility is a key aspect of the game, as players have the ability to air juggle their opponents, dash across the battlefield, and seamlessly switch targets on the fly. This adaptability ensures that every battle is unique and allows players to approach encounters in a way that suits their playstyle.

Slave Zero X offers a variety of challenges, including facing off against challenging mini-bosses, engaging in thrilling set pieces, and engaging in intense 1-on-1 encounters against powerful villains.

Moreover, players may refine their moves in the Training Room to master devastating attack sequences. It also features a 90s-inspired soundtrack with heavy drum ‘n’ bass and funky industrial music that enhances the combat experience.

Upon completing the campaign, players can take on further challenges in the expansive and frenetic ‘Bloody Palace’ procedural challenge tower, which has an online high-score leaderboard.

Slave Zero X is slated to launch for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on 21 February 2024. You can play the demo now on PC via Steam.
