RGG Summit 2023 Showcases Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth Gameplay Trailer & Release Date

Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio just dropped some exciting news! Brace yourselves for the next installment in the Like A Dragon series, previously known as the Yakuza series. They’re calling it Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, and you can mark your calendars for its big debut on 26 January 2024. You’ll be able to play it on your PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X | S, or Xbox One. The buzz about this release came straight from the horse’s mouth during the RGG Summit Fall 2023.
But that’s not all – they’ve also treated us to a slick new trailer for Infinite Wealth. It stars Kasuga Ichiban, the guy who’s on a mission to find his supposedly long-lost mother and somehow lands up in the tropical paradise of Honolulu, Hawaii. You’d think it’s all fun in the sun, but nope! The game takes a classic turn with crime conspiracies and intense melodrama unfolding back in Tokyo and Yokohama. Ichiban gets an unexpected one-way ticket to Hawaii, courtesy of a shady cab driver. To top it off, he ends up getting busted for indecency, and who does he cross paths with in lockup? None other than the OG hero, Kazuma Kiryu. They’re both sharing the spotlight as dual protagonists in Infinite Wealth.
As if that wasn’t enough drama for one game, they’re throwing in encounters with the local Chinese mafia (the Barracudas), the yakuza, and even some wellness cult weirdness. Plus, you’ll get to reunite with Ichiban’s pals and party members from Yakuza: Like A Dragon. But, there’s a heartbreaking twist – it turns out Kiryu is battling cancer.
Now, let’s lighten the mood a bit. The trailer also gave us a glimpse of some fun distractions like surfing, karaoke, and paragliding, alongside some epic brawls (yes, there’s a showdown with a giant shark and octopus).
In the second trailer, they showed off the game’s exploration aspect, featuring Segway rides, cool mini-games like Crazy Delivery (imagine Crazy Taxi on a bicycle), and some more mature-themed activities. And guess what? You’ll be able to play retro Sega games like Sega Bass Fishing, Virtua Fighter 3, and SpikeOut.
The game world will also have dynamic weather, and the turn-based combat system makes a comeback with some slick upgrades. Now, you can move freely and switch to real-time combat with Kiryu. The job system is getting a facelift too, with new roles like pyrodancer, housekeeper, and action star, each bringing unique abilities and outfits.
Remember Poundmates? Yep, they’re back, and they’ve got some new and familiar faces, including a lobster. And if you’re into collecting, there’s a new game mode called Sujimon, where you gather defeated enemies like Pokemon and pit them against each other.
During the RGG Summit, Masayoshi Yokoyama, the studio director, spilled the beans on Kiryu’s new hairstyle (blame it on his illness) and why he’s joining forces with Ichiban and his gang – Kiryu’s powers are on the decline.
In the English version of the RGG Summit 2023, titled Like A Dragon Direct, they dropped some bombshells. Danny Trejo, the legendary actor, will lend his voice to Dwight, the leader of the Barracudas. And guess who’s playing Yakuza leader, Masataka Eniba? It’s Daniel Dae Kim!
But the surprises don’t end there. The studio also treated us to the opening movie for Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. The cherry on top? It features a fresh track by Japanese alternative musician Yojiro Noda and a guest appearance by rapper J.I.D.
Oh, and here’s a little bonus for you gaming enthusiasts – a trial version of Infinite Wealth will come bundled with Like A Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. So, get ready to dive into Like A Dragon Gaiden on 9 November, and mark your calendar again for Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth on 26 January 2024. It’s going to be a wild ride!
