Hideki Kamiya Launches His Own YouTube Channel; Can’t Make Games For One Year
By Alleef Ashaari|October 12, 2023|0 Comment
Hideki Kamiya has officially departed from PlatinumGames as of 12 October 2023. What is he doing now? In a surprise move, the legendary game creator and developer has launched his own YouTube channel.
In his first video, Kamiya discusses about why he departed from PlatinumGames and what his plans are moving forward.
He said:
“You can BLEEP OUT, right? How should I put it… hmm… How can I put it… Umm… THERE’S NO WAY I CAN PUT IT. You guys understand, right? But… I’d say, I left the company because I wanted to follow my beliefs as a game creator. And to choose the path I think is right and move on. Yeah, so I’m not going to retire yet. I want to keep creating games.”
He also revealed that he can’t work in the games industry for at least one year. This is likely due to a non-compete clause which was part of his contract at PlatinumGames.
He added:
“Am I even allowed to say this out loud? I can’t work for (the same industry for) a year. Due to reasons. So, it’ll be a while until I bring good news to you all. It’ll take time. but I’ll make it happen.”
Hideki Kamiya originally began his career in 1994 with Capcom as the director of the iconic 1998’s Resident Evil 2. He later directed other iconic games such as 2001’s Devil May Cry, 2003’s Viewtiful Joe and 2006’s Okami. He then left Capcom and co-founded PlatinumGames in 2006. At PlatinumGames, he was best known for directing games such as the Bayonetta franchise.
