Tencent Plans to Distribute Apex Legends in China

Tencent is proposing to bring Apex Legends to China.

According to South China Morning Post, Tencent is having dialogues with Electronic Arts on the probability of bringing Respawn’s highly acclaimed battle royale game, Apex Legends into China.

This proposal makes perfect sense seeing how well Apex Legends surpassed Fortnite in terms of single-day viewership record on Twitch and has reached a milestone of 1 million concurrent players in just 72 hours after the game saw sunlight.

However, the deal has not been confirmed at this stage, said the person who requested to be anonymous as the information is private. The speculation of the deal came about from a Chinese microblogging site, Sina Weibo.

Tencent and EA did not immediately respond to requests for comments.

If the deal comes through, Apex Legends would be the third battle royale title to be under Tencent’s belt. The company now oversees Chinese distribution of Fortnite, as they hold a minority stake in Epic Games and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
