M5 World Championship – Day 6: Upsets Galore
The M5 World Championship Group Stages concluded with significant surprises on the final day!
The last day saw major upsets as AP.Bren, Blacklist International, Burmese Ghouls, Deus Vult, Fire Flux Esports, Geek Fam, ONIC Esports, and See You Soon emerged as the teams advancing to the M5 World Championship Knockouts.
Triple Esports started the day by defeating Bigetron Sons 2-1, although both teams were already out of contention, playing for pride as ONIC Esports and See You Soon had already qualified from Group A. Triple Esports’ victory affirmed their credibility after their previous win against Brazillian champions at the IESF World Esports Championship 2023.
In the following match, AP.Bren secured a clean sweep against Team Lilgun, eliminating the Mongolian champions. This victory marked a flawless performance in the Group Stage for the home favourites, making them the only team, alongside ONIC Esports, to win all their Group Stage matches.
TheOhioBrothers pulled off an upset by defeating HomeBois 2-1, helping Geek Fam and Deus Vult by sending the MPL Malaysia champions home early. Despite already being eliminated, TheOhioBrothers played with determination, dominating the first game in just 13 minutes. HomeBois managed to take Game 2, but they couldn’t complete the comeback in Game 3. HomeBois’ elimination means no Malaysian team will be in the Knockouts for the first time in an M-Series.
In the penultimate Group Stage match, Blacklist International faced a surprising 2-0 defeat against Fire Flux Esports from Turkiye. This loss meant Fire Flux Esports claimed the top spot in Group B, while Blacklist International settled for second place.
