Before PMGC 2022, the top regions in PUBG Mobile esports were considered to be China and Southeast Asia. However, after PMGC 2023, Mongolia has emerged as a strong contender for that title.

China has long been a powerhouse in PUBG Mobile esports, with its Peacekeeper Elite scene boasting large franchised leagues and substantial prize pools, resulting in the development of top-tier talent. Chinese teams dominated the first PMGC in 2020, and in 2021, Nova Esports successfully defended their title with comfortable leads throughout the tournament.

While this success was beneficial for the local Chinese scene, it raised concerns about the need for a more balanced distribution of talent and competition for the growth of PUBG Mobile esports. Fast-forward to PMGC 2022, where S2G Esports from Turkey, not widely acclaimed globally, surprised everyone by clinching the title, leaving Chinese teams in eighth, ninth, and 11th places.

This unexpected outcome suggested that other regions had caught up with China, challenging their dominance. PMGC 2023 further confirmed this trend.

Mongolia, not traditionally known for its esports prowess and with a small population of around 3 million, witnessed a remarkable performance from Stalwart Esports, IHC Esports, and 4Merical Vibes, securing first, second, and fourth places in PMGC 2023.

Mongolia’s rise in PUBG Mobile esports began in 2022, with Stalwart and IHC placing fourth and fifth in PMGC. In the 2023 edition, Stalwart asserted their dominance early on, securing two chicken dinners on Day 1, leading with an eight-point advantage. IHC faced challenges initially but made a comeback on Day 2, and on the third day, they secured a crucial Chicken Dinner, ultimately winning the trophy.

Out of the 18 matches in the PMGC 2023 Finals, the three Mongolian teams won six, showcasing their strength. Mongolia will now participate in the PMSL Central and South Asia, a newly-established offline event. As the 2024 PMGC heads to the United Kingdom, it remains to be seen how Mongolia will fare against increasing competition from different regions in the game.
