Hogwarts Legacy Poised To End 15-Year Reign Of Call Of Duty & Rockstar Dominance In US Game Sales

Hogwarts Legacy is currently leading as the best-selling game in the US market for the year, up until the end of November.

However, lurking closely behind is the unexpected contender, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, which has swiftly claimed the title of the second best-selling game of the year in the US, defying initial negative reviews. Hogwarts Legacy’s grasp on the top spot is facing a formidable challenge from the relentless surge of Modern Warfare III, intensifying the battle for supremacy in the gaming industry.

This means that Modern Warfare III has already outsold other notable titles like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Madden NFL 24, and Diablo IV within its first weeks on the market.

Traditionally, Call of Duty dominates annual game sales in the US. If Hogwarts Legacy maintains its top position, it would be the first non-Call of Duty or Rockstar game in 15 years to achieve this, the last being Wii Play in 2008.

On a global scale, Hogwarts Legacy has exceeded 15 million sales and generated over $1 billion in revenue, according to Warner Bros. Discovery.

The current top ten best-selling games for the year also include the previous Call of Duty release, Modern Warfare II, along with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Mortal Kombat 1, Starfield, and Resident Evil 4.
