Dota 2 ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 – Day 4: A Full Day Of Elimination Matches
The main event of ESL One Kuala Lumpur 2023 kicked off on Friday, 15 December, with intense Dota 2 matches. The remaining eight teams grappled with the newly released 7.35 update, vying for a share of the US$1 million prize pool. Despite some players expressing discontent with the patch’s timing, the day saw three teams eliminated in chaotic lower bracket matches.
Team Liquid, a dominant force from Western Europe, secured a spot in the lower bracket semifinals by defeating both Team Secret and Team Falcons. BetBoom Team from Eastern Europe also advanced to the lower bracket quarterfinals by overcoming Tundra Esports.
In the opening match, Team Liquid swiftly took down Team Secret 2-0. Despite having limited time to adapt to the new patch, Liquid demonstrated a better understanding, particularly in game one, where core players such as miCKe on Monkey King played a crucial role in the team’s victory. Game two was a collaborative effort, resulting in a 2-0 win for Liquid.
BetBoom Team secured their place by defeating Tundra Esports with a 2-0 sweep. In both games, BetBoom showcased dominance, with gpk on Storm Spirit and Pure on Windranger delivering standout performances.
The day concluded with Team Liquid facing Team Falcons in a hard-fought three-game series. Falcons claimed the first game, but Liquid bounced back to win the next two, securing a Top 4 placement. With these results, Team Liquid guaranteed themselves a fourth-place finish with US$85,000 in winnings, while BetBoom Team secured at least a 5th-6th place finish and a US$57,500 prize. Team Falcons exited in 5th-6th place with US$57,500 consolation, and Team Secret along with Tundra Esports finished in 7th-8th place, earning US$47,500 each.
