M5 World Championship – Day 11: Championship Reaches Climax in Lower Bracket Battles
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|December 16, 2023|0 Comment
Blacklist International advanced in the lower bracket, overcoming a 3-1 deficit against Geek Fam. Despite Geek Fam dominating the first game with a 15-minute victory and an 11k gold advantage, Blacklist International rallied in the next three games.
Renejay “Renejay” Barcase, earning MVP honours, showcased proficiency in healing-type heroes, a playstyle he developed and now embraces, according to coach Kristoffer “BON CHAN” Ricaplaza. The coach acknowledged the versatility of roamer Renejay and jungler Stephen “Sensui” Castillo for enhancing the team’s draft flexibility. Despite being eliminated, Geek Fam had an impressive debut in the M-Series tournament after reaching the MPL Indonesia Grand Finals.
In the second match, Deus Vult executed a reverse sweep against See You Soon, becoming the first team in the M5 World Championship to achieve this in a BO5. Initially down 0-2, Deus Vult secured victory in Game 3 with Kemiran “Sunset Lover” Kochkarov’s exceptional play using Lylia. Riding the momentum, they claimed the next two games in under 11 minutes, ending See You Soon’s campaign. Despite elimination, See You Soon achieved a historic top 6 finish for a Cambodian team in an M-Series tournament.
Blacklist International is on the verge of repeating history with another lower bracket run, reminiscent of their M3 success. Deus Vult, already recognized as a dark horse, aims to establish a legacy for EECA. The question remains: will Blacklist International continue their streak, or will Deus Vult surpass expectations?
ONIC Esports and AP.Bren, both showcasing greatness throughout the year, compete for the first ticket to the M5 Grand Finals. ONIC, with back-to-back MPL wins and MSC 2023, pursues a golden road. Meanwhile, AP.Bren’s achievements include two gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games and IESF. The M5 lower bracket final promises an extraordinary best-of-five series, setting the stage for the grandiose finals ahead.
