Lego’s Latest Millennium Falcon Is A Must Have for All Star Wars Fans
By Kenn Leandre|April 18, 2024|2 Comments
The Millennium Falcon is one of, if not, the most iconic Star Wars starship in pop culture history. A light freighter-turned-command ship for the Rebel Alliance, the Falcon was originally owned by Lando Calrissian before losing it in a game of sabacc to Han Solo. By the end of the sequel trilogy, the ship was seen under the care of Rey. Needless to say, if you’re ever to only own ONE Lego Star Wars vehicle set, you cannot go wrong with the Millennium Falcon.
However, over the years, Millennium Falcon sets released have missed the mark for adult casual collectors. Sets released have either been too small or lack detail, like those found in the Microfighters range;
…or detailed but not-so-space-friendly as seen in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Millennium Falcon set (RM849.90);
or just too big and incredibly expensive as found in the UCS Millennium Falcon set (RM3,599.90).
Until now.
Released as part of the celebration of 25 Years of Lego Star Wars under the Starship Collection line, the #75375 Millennium Falcon set is a must-have for all Star Wars fans – new, old, casual and even the hardcore. There’s so much good in this set from its initial price, building experience and of course, shelf presence. But with the good also come some caveats which we will also point out in this review.
Consisting of 921 LEGO pieces, the set is marked as being an 18+ build which means it is targeted at the more experienced builders or the very least, the adult demographic. Straight out of the box are eleven marked plastic bags, a loose tube-like piece which later forms the blue exhaust vents of the Falcon and an instruction build booklet.
The build steps are very much straightforward with clear instructions all around. Intricate but not confusing like say, a Technics set. As long as you pay attention to where each piece sits, you’ll be swooshing your completed set in no time. We consider ourselves to be a seasoned LEGO builder and nowhere near expert and it took us just under two and a half hours to have the set up and ready.
Also spotted during the build are easter eggs within the starship depicting several iconic scenes from Star Wars IV: A New Hope, including the holochess scene;
Luke and Obi-Wan’s training session
and of Luke, Leia and Han together
However, due to the nature of the build, these pieces are not visible once the final pieces are put in place. Nonetheless, it’s cool that the set designers managed to cram in these details into this already compact set.
Using cleverly-placed sloped bricks, aided by various pieces to represent the greebling and secured in place with studs and clips, the designers of this LEGO build was able to recreate the intricacies of the starship without sacrificing design or playability. For rigidity and stability, the first few bags focuses on the inner spine structure of the Falcon which turns out to be our favorite parts of the build.
Capping off this build are the eight separate panels making up the top and bottom outer shells of the Falcon. These steps may appear repetitive but each panel is unique enough that we do not find it to be a big of an issue. All the graphics seen on the Falcon are printed on the brick pieces – a move we very much welcome. By the time we were done with the last bag, there were several loose pieces which could be used for further detail enhancement on the set.
The fully-assembled Falcon can be rested on the stand which has the starship sitting at an angle. Shelf space has always been an issue for Millennium Falcon LEGO sets of the past due to its flat shape so having it slanted at an angle does help solve this issue.
Although far from being the sturdiest build out there, this iteration of the Falcon is definitely “swooshable” if you intend to have your kids (or yourself) play with it. And even when the pieces fall off, half of the fun of Lego builds is to figure out how and where the loose pieces should return to. For comparison’s sake, below is the completed set with an Xbox controller for scale.
Overall, the Lego #75375 Millennium Falcon set is a great proposition and fun build with an awesome shelf presence. However, there’s one niggling thing we have to point out. It is pricy. Retailing at RM419.90, it is the most expensive set in the Starship Collection. Some may question the absence of a Lego minifigure to come along with this set but it isn’t a deal breaker for us. The Falcon alone is a pivotal character in the Star Wars universe.
No idea on what to get your Star Wars-loving loved one for a special occasion? You not only hit the bullseye with this Millennium Falcon set; you’ll hit the exhaust port of a space station from miles away. Definitely perfect with May the 4th being around the corner.
