Fantasian Set to Make Console Debut This Year

Fantasian, the acclaimed Apple Arcade game from Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, is reportedly making its way to consoles later this year.

The news comes from industry insider Nate the Hate, known for his accurate predictions. In a recent podcast, he revealed that Square Enix is teaming up with developer Mistwalker to bring Fantasian to Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles. According to Nate the Hate, the game will be officially announced for the Switch during a Nintendo Direct presentation on Tuesday.

Fantasian initially launched in two parts on Apple Arcade, with Part 1 debuting in April 2021 and Part 2 following four months later. The game marked Sakaguchi’s return to traditional turn-based RPG gameplay, a style he hadn’t explored since 2007’s Lost Odyssey for the Xbox 360. The soundtrack, crafted by legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu, has also been a highlight for fans.

What sets Fantasian apart is its distinctive art style. The game features environments created from real-life dioramas by Japanese artists experienced in ‘tokusatsu’ (special effects) films, including the Godzilla series, Attack on Titan, and Ultraman. These meticulously crafted dioramas were scanned to create the game’s realistic backgrounds.

Last year, Sakaguchi expressed his desire to eventually bring Fantasian to PC and hinted at the possibility of a sequel. An apparent listing for Fantasian appeared in Steam’s database, fueling speculation about its broader release.
