After 20 Years, This WayForward Shmup Classic Will Return To Modern Consoles & PC
By Jonathan Toyad|July 9, 2024|0 Comment
Back in 2005, WayForward made a 2D shmup-slash-RPG hybrid called Sigma Star Saga. You played a double agent who explored and fought enemies in top-down form, and also engage in random battles where you teleport into space onto a random ship and go through a 2D shmup wave. It was quite innovative for its time and the game’s spritework wasn’t half-bad to look at.
20 years later, WayForward is planning on revisiting that old game and re-releasing it for current consoles (Xbox Series, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch) and PC. The Sigma Star Saga re-release will also be out on a Game Boy Advance-compatible repro cart courtesy of Limited Run Games. Key art and logo, as well as the game’s feature list, are below:

If you want to see Sigma Star Saga running on the GBA, check out the playthrough video below. I’ve played the original game back in the day; while a unique game, the RPG grind is very, VERY long and tedious. I do hope the re-release can fix that problem.
