VALORANT Champions 2024 – Day 6: Trace Esports Upset Leviatán

VALORANT Champions 2024, unfolding in Seoul, Korea, has already treated fans to spectacular matches. Day 6 was no exception, as two high-stakes faceoffs showcased the fierce competition and unpredictability that define this global esports event. In Group C, Trace Esports took on Leviatán, while Group D witnessed a showdown between G2 Esports and EDward Gaming.

Trace Esports vs. Leviatán

Trace Esports, the underdogs of Group C, delivered the biggest shock of the tournament so far by defeating Leviatán, the VCT Americas champions. This victory not only secured their spot in the playoffs but also marked a historic moment as they became the first Chinese team to reach this stage in VALORANT Champions history.

Map 1: Bind – The first map, Bind, was Trace Esports’ pick, and they demonstrated their strategic prowess with a Cypher and Deadlock composition. Ho Shun “heybay” Hei’s impressive 1v2 clutch was crucial, leading Trace to a narrow 13-11 victory.

Map 2: Sunset – Leviatán, opting for Sunset, fought back with Erick “aspas” Santos shining as Neon. His 4K in round 10 helped Leviatán secure a 13-9 win, levelling the series.

Map 3: Ascent – The decider on Ascent saw Trace Esports dominate with a 13-5 scoreline. Lu “Kai” Zhinan’s performance, boasting a KDA of 19/10/5, earned him the MVP title, solidifying Trace Esports’ unexpected yet well-deserved triumph.

G2 Esports vs. EDward Gaming

The second marquee matchup of the day featured G2 Esports against EDward Gaming. Both teams had swept their previous opponents 2-0, setting the stage for an intense battle.

Map 1: Icebox – G2 Esports chose Icebox, but EDward Gaming’s preparation was evident as they took the first six rounds, eventually winning 13-8. Jacob “icy” Lange’s 1v2 clutch in round 20 was a highlight, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

Map 2: Haven – On Haven, G2 Esports showcased resilience, with Nathan “Leaf” Orf’s seven first kills and multiple 3Ks playing a pivotal role. They edged out a 13-11 victory, pushing the match to a third map.

Map 3: Bind – The final map, Bind, mirrored Haven’s scoreline, with G2 Esports completing the reverse sweep. Leaf’s outstanding aim and strategic play were instrumental in their 13-11 win, securing their spot in the playoffs.

A Glimpse into the Future

Day 6 of VALORANT Champions 2024 has set the stage for thrilling playoff matchups. Trace Esports’ historic victory and G2 Esports’ dramatic comeback exemplify the unpredictable nature of the tournament. As fans and analysts eagerly anticipate the upcoming matches, the question remains: Who will rise to claim the title of world champion?
