Rocksteady Games Hit By Layoffs Due To Suicide Squad Game Underperforming
Another prolific video game company may bite the dust.
Rocksteady is cutting down its staff to half over the past month due to its latest game, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League, underperforming. According to reports from Eurogamer, the team size went from 33 to 15 members following the “restructuring”. Even the team’s Quality Assurance department is facing layoffs, with a staff member stating that they were made redundant during their paternity leave.
The loss of half the manpower and certain members with specialised knowledge means that their remaining 15 colleagues will be doing more work than usual. Staff members affected by the cuts include a combination of junior staff and senior employees who have been with the company for 5+ years.
Warner Bros. previously reported that its gaming revenue year-on-year fell by 41 percent. The weak performance of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League lost US$200 million. Despite this setback, Rocksteady will still be working on post-game content for the open-world looter shooter title. For more on why the game faltered, check out our “glowing” review of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League.
