After 15 Long Years, 2025 Will See The Revival Of Skate

It’s been 15 years since the last Skate game, and fans have been anxiously awaiting the next chapter in the beloved franchise. Now, the wait is almost over. EA’s next entry, simply titled “skate.” (with a period), is finally set for an early access release in early 2025. This marks a significant moment for the series, which has helped define skateboarding video games.
After years of anticipation and teases, EA recently shared the exciting news via the game’s official X account, accompanied by a brief 19-second teaser. Though short on details, the teaser highlights the ongoing playtesting process, giving PC players an early look while console playtests are expected soon.

This new instalment brings several fresh elements. Unlike previous games, skate. will be free-to-play, feature cross-platform play, and be available on PC, consoles, and mobile. EA has promised no pay-to-win features, despite the inclusion of microtransactions to support its live-service model.
Set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, the game’s story follows the collapse of the corporate giant M-Corp (formerly MongoCorp), which has left the city open for players to reclaim and transform into a skater’s paradise. The narrative was humorously introduced in a skit featuring comedian Tim Robinson, portraying corporate stooge Richard “Richie” Dandle, during the Summer Games Fest 2024.
In addition to skate., the skateboarding game scene is heating up, with Tony Hawk hinting at possible competition ahead of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series’ 25th anniversary. Fans looking to get early access to skate. can sign up through the Skate Insider site, with EA continuing to roll out updates as development progresses.
After a decade and a half, 2025 is shaping up to be a banner year for Skate fans, with the franchise’s long-awaited return bringing a blend of nostalgia and fresh excitement.
