A mobile version of long-running live service looter shooter game Destiny was going to happen eventually. I just didn’t expect it to take this long for the announcement to happen, especially in a time when the F2P market is pretty saturated at this point.

Bungie will be co-operating with Chinese game publisher NetEase Games on a metaphoric Raid that involves making Destiny relevant to casual and hardcore mobile gaming markets. How? By making a free-to-play mobile RPG shooter version of its hit game Destiny, dubbed Destiny: Rising.

Netease will be making and publishing the game, while Bungie will provide oversight and approvals during development. Destiny: Rising will feature both first-person and third-person modes in its looter shooter gameplay, and will also support PlayStation, Xbox, and mobile-specific controllers. The game will have PvE and PvP modes too, new Exotic weapons to collect and farm for, and a new storyline that takes place in different and familiar locations from the game’s universe.

At the very least, the trailer looks solid though I am wary about what F2P microtransactions will be on tap for this title. It also won’t be long until you can get your hands on an alpha build of the game; a closed alpha test for Destiny: Rising will take place starting 1st November. You can register here.
