A teaser for Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga and anime adaptation confirmed on Sunday that the anime will pick up the ongoing Egghead arc next April. This announcement followed the Sunday broadcast of Monsters: 103 Mercies Dragon Damnation and One Piece Film Red.
A special livestream titled One Piece News #1 revealed that the anime will take a break from its regular Sunday slot until the end of March 2025. The anime will return with more details shared at the Jump Festa 2025 event on 22 December, including a new Sunday timeslot starting in April.
In the meantime, the One Piece Fan Letter Special will air next Sunday, followed by a revamped version of the Fish-Man Island arc starting 27 October. This special “One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga” is a streamlined 21-episode version featuring enhanced visuals, updated colour shading, lighting, special effects, and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. The Straw Hat Pirates, performing as “Mugiwara no Ichimi,” will sing a new rendition of the “We Go!” opening theme, previously sung solo by Hiroshi Kitadani. BE:FIRST, a boy band and massive One Piece fans, will contribute the ending theme titled “Sailing.”
Additionally, One Piece Base, a new smartphone app, launched Sunday in Japan and is set for international release in 2025. The app, featuring a manga viewer and other content from the One Piece universe, will let users unlock manga chapters by scanning bar codes from select merchandise. The app’s Nigaoe Maker will also allow fans to create portraits of themselves in Oda’s signature art style.
Earlier on Sunday, One Piece’s official English YouTube channel premiered a trailer for the upcoming One Piece Fan Letter special airing on 20 October. This special, based on Tomohito ?saki’s Mugiwara Stories short story collection, celebrates the anime’s 25th anniversary.
One Piece Film Red, the 15th film in the series, premiered in August 2022, earning JP¥20.33 billion (around US$137 million) by the end of its encore screenings in November 2023. It became the 6th highest-grossing film in Japanese history and the 4th highest-grossing anime film. It also broke franchise records, becoming the top-selling and highest-grossing One Piece film in tickets sold and revenue earned.
In other news, One Piece’s second live-action season is currently in development, as well as a remake anime at Wit Studio for Netflix. Lastly, Crunchyroll confirmed it will stream both the One Piece Fan Letter special and the One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga.
