Genshin Impact to Surpass $10 Billion in Player Spending by 2025

Genshin Impact, the popular gacha RPG game by HoYoverse, has achieved an impressive milestone by surpassing $5 billion in mobile revenue in mainland China, as reported by Niko Partners.

According to Sensor Tower data, over $2.2 billion of this revenue came from iOS, while the rest is an estimate of spending on third-party app stores. What sets this figure apart is that it includes spending from third-party Android stores, which is significant given that most analytics and data platforms typically only track App Store revenue in China due to the absence of the Google Play Store in the country.

Niko Partners also revealed that Genshin Impact’s global mobile revenue outside China has exceeded $4 billion, with the country contributing over 55% of the total revenue. Despite the game’s declining revenues over the past year, Niko Partners predicts that Genshin Impact will surpass $10 billion in player spending by 2025. This decline has been attributed to increased competition in the RPG genre and cannibalization across HoYoverse titles, including Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero.

Speculation about cannibalization between HoYoverse games has been ongoing, and the decline in Genshin Impact’s revenues over the past year further supports this argument. However, the fact that players are choosing to spend in other HoYoverse titles means that the revenue is still going to the same developer. Despite the decline in Genshin Impact’s mobile earnings, Zenless Zone Zero has performed exceptionally well, surpassing $150 million in its first three months.

This achievement solidifies HoYoverse’s position as a dominant force in the mobile gaming industry, signaling that the company shows no signs of slowing down.
