Sales & Exports Of Malaysian Games Reaches RM45 Million
By Alleef Ashaari|October 28, 2024|0 Comment
The sales and exports of Malaysian games have surpassed a whopping RM45 million, which is an impressive feat and a milestone for the games industry in Malaysia.
In a press release, Minister of Digital Malaysia Gobind Singh Deo said:
“The Malaysian digital games industry has recorded total sales and exports of up to RM45 million with funds that the Government has provided.
This proves that the Malaysian digital games industry has great potential to be developed with support from the Government in market access, incubators, conferences, workshops, upskilling and reskilling programs, and more.”
He also added that more than 60 projects have been approved by MDEC (Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation) with a total funding of RM36.7 million for the development of digital games, including platforms such as PC, consoles and mobile. All of these projects have also created more than 700 job opportunities for Malaysians.
Games that have received funding from MDEC include Tiny Guardians from Kurechii, Re-Legend from Magnus Games Studio, No Straight Road from Metronomik, Rhythm Doctor from 7th Beat Games and GigaBash from Passion Republic Games.
This new official statement from the Malaysian Government comes just a week after Bangi Member Of Parliament (MP) Syahredzan Johan spoke out about what the Malaysian government can do to further support the Malaysian games industry in addition to financial assistance or funding. You can read Syahredzan Johan’s full address by heading over here, but the gist of it was that the Government needs to help market local games to the world.
For more from Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan, we also had the opportunity to interview him last year about esports and gaming in general, so head on over here for that.
