MLBB Set To Thrill At 2024 WEC With First-Ever Women’s Tournament

The stage is nearly set for the 2024 World Esports Championship (WEC), with Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) poised to steal the spotlight. This year, the International Esports Federation (IESF) adds excitement by debuting a women’s event alongside the main tournament, both with an impressive combined prize pool of US$280,000. From 12-15 November, the main MLBB event will see top teams face off for national glory, followed by the women’s competition from 16-19 November.

With over 80 countries initially competing, only 16 teams in the main tournament and 12 in the women’s division have clinched their spots after intense qualifiers. “We’re proud to see MLBB’s global community grow,” said Ray Ng, Head of Esports Ecosystem at MOONTON Games, adding that the prize pool and new women’s event reflect the publisher’s dedication to esports diversity.

Fierce rivalries and debutants alike will collide, with past champions the Philippines, as well as Indonesia and Malaysia, fielding powerhouse teams. Defending champions RRQ Kaito of the Philippines aim to retain their title after ousting heavyweights like Omega Esports in qualifiers. Malaysia’s top-tier Selangor Red Giants bring Mid Season Cup 2024 talent, while Indonesia’s Fnatic Onic enter the tournament hungry for redemption. Meanwhile, host nation Saudi Arabia’s MPL MENA champions Twisted Minds are determined to impress on home soil.

The tournament kicks off with a best-of-three group stage for the main event on 12-13 November, advancing to single-elimination playoffs on 14-15 November. The women’s tournament follows a round-robin group stage on 16-17 November, with a double-elimination playoff format set for 18-19 November.

With national pride and a US$280,000 prize at stake, WEC 2024 promises unforgettable clashes and a celebration of MLBB’s ever-expanding esports scene. Catch the live action on the IESF and MLBB Esports Official YouTube channels.
