Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Guide: Where To Change Classes, Vocations & Appearances

Developed by Square Enix, Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. In the meantime, check out our full review of the game by heading over here.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is a reimagining and remake of the classic and legendary JRPG. Unlike in other JRPGs, with the exception of the protagonist, you’ll actually have to create your own characters and party members. This includes their classes (called vocations in the game) and appearances.

There are nine classes or vocations to choose from (not including the hero). However, you can only have four members in a full party. So, how can you experiment with other classes without creating a new character from scratch?

Well, there’s actually a way in Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake for you to change the classes/vocations of your characters and even their appearances.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake Alltrades Abbey

Eventually on your adventure (after several hours into the game, depending on your playstyle), you will reach Alltrades Abbey, where you can give any character over level 20, except the protagonist, a new class or vocation of your choosing.

Party members will revert to level 1 post-vocation change, but they will still retain all the spells and abilities they had in their arsenal. That being said, there are pros and cons to changing classes (they can become more versatile and learn more skills/abilities) and their stats will eventually become better once they start levelling up again.

Besides changing classes and appearances, there’s one more thing you can do at the Alltrade Abbey that’s easy to forget. Once your Priest or Mage reaches a certain level, they can be upgraded into Sages, one of the most powerful classes in the game that essentially combines the offensiveness of a Mage and the healing powers of a Priest.

Don’t worry about missing Alltrades Abbey because it’s impossible to do so, you’ll eventually have to go there anyway as part of the story and narrative so my advice is to have fun with your existing party first. You can think about changing classes once you eventually get to Alltrades Abbey so no rush. And if you choose not to change classes, that’s okay too, because the game doesn’t force you to, it’s completely optional.

As for changing appearances, meet the Healizah outside the Alltrades Abbey (to the right).
