Dune Prophecy Episode 2 Arrives With Agony & Genetic Memory

The second episode of Dune Prophecy is now streaming on Max Malaysia.

Check out my breakdown of Dune Prophecy Episode 1 here.

Set within the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel Sisterhood Of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.

Cast includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha. Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer. Diane Ademu-John co-developed the series and serves as executive producer. Anna Foerster executive-produced and directed multiple episodes including the first.

At the time of writing, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two has grossed a whopping US$$714.44 million globally. In the meantime, check out our glowing review of Dune Part Two by heading over here.

Max will be available in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries (replacing HBO GO) starting from 19 November 2024.

The Emperor Knows That Desmond Hart Killed Pruwet Richese

He tells his guards to imprison him in order to hide him and his actions from being discovered by House Richese.

But eventually, House Richese finds out later in the episode.

When interrogated by Mother Superior Valya, Desmond Hart admits to killing both Pruwet Richese and Mother Kasha, saying that he’s doing it for the sake of the Imperium.

The Emperor’s Swordmaster, Keiran Atreides, Is Working With The Rebels Of The Uprising

He gives them the layout of the palace’s throne room because they want to assassinate the Emperor.

The Fremen Woman Named Mikaela Is One Of The Bene Gesserit And The Rebels Are Part Of The Bene Gesserit’s Plans

Shalom Brune-Franklin as Mikaela is the first Fremen we’ve seen on the show so far and it turns out that she’s actually Sister Mikaela who’s part of the Bene Gesserit. She’s only working with the rebels because the rebellion is part of the Bene Gesserit’s plans and machinations to control the Imperium.

Sister Lila Undergoes The Agony To Unlock Her Genetic Memory, Just Like Lady Jessica And Paul Atreides Will Eventually Do In Dune Part Two

Lila is the descendant of the first Mother Superior and founder of the Bene Gesserit, Raquella Berto-Anirul.

To unlock the memories of her ancestors, she needs to undergo the process of the Agony, which could potentially kill her.

In the Dune universe, Genetic memory is the concept, present in the original novel, where an individual may possess the memories of their ancestors, hidden away within their genetic code.

To access one’s genetic memory, one would have to take dangerous narcotics or drugs. For example, in Dune Part Two, both Lady Jessica and Paul Atreides underwent the process of the Agony by drinking the blood of a sandworm (Shai-Hulud), which almost killed them in the process.

Unfortunately, the process of the Agony kills Lila.

The Emperor Uses Desmond Hart To Almost Kill Duke Richese

After Duke Richese threatened the Emperor, the Emperor retaliated by commanding Desmond Hart to use his mysterious powers to almost kill Duke Richese.

Desmond Hart Can Resist The Voice

The episode ends with Desmond Hart successfully convincing the Emperor to follow his advice and stop taking the advice of the Bene Gesserit.

It’s also revealed that Desmond Hart can resist the power of Valya’s Voice compelling him to kill himself.

Thus begins the conflict between Desmond Hart and the Bene Gesserit.

Until next week, excelsior!
