Director Spills The Chocobo Beans On Why Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Skipped DLC

When it comes to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, fans hoping for some juicy episodic story DLC are out of luck—at least for now. According to Naoki Hamaguchi, the game’s director, the team initially toyed with the idea of creating additional content for the PC release. However, Square Enix ultimately decided to focus all their resources on wrapping up the highly anticipated third instalment of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy.
In an interview with Epic Games, Hamaguchi explained, “We did have the desire to add an episodic story as a new DLC to the PC version, but finishing the next game as quickly as possible was our highest priority.” With the trilogy’s grand finale in sight, the development team felt that spreading their efforts across multiple projects wasn’t the right move.

Fans of the series might recall Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade—a polished PS5 and PC re-release of the 2020 Final Fantasy 7 Remake—which came with a bonus DLC, Episode Intermission. However, those extra goodies won’t be returning with Rebirth, which launched for PS5 in February 2024 and is heading to PC in January 2025.
But all hope isn’t lost. Hamaguchi hinted that if fan demand for specific features or content becomes overwhelming post-launch, the team might reconsider. So, if you’ve got something in mind, it might be time to rally the internet.
On a related note, Hamaguchi also addressed the modding community, showing respect for their creativity while issuing a polite request: keep it clean. Official mod support isn’t on the table, but the team welcomes community creations—just nothing offensive or inappropriate, please.
For now, it seems the focus is firmly on delivering the trilogy’s climactic chapter. Whether DLC or modding dreams come true, players will have to wait and see how the Final Fantasy 7 saga concludes.
