World War Z, That Left 4 Dead Clone, Reaches One Million Players, Sold 250k Units

Saber Interactive, the guys responsible for titles like TimeShift, Inversion, and NBA Playgrounds, just posted about the success of its latest title World War Z.

The game sold over 250,000 units on the Epic Games store and garnered over 1 million players in their first week of launch.

Saber Interactive had this to say regarding the unit numbers:

“On the PC specifically, we are performing way above expectations thanks to the support we have received from the Epic Games Store.”

The company also mentioned on a Venture Beat interview that the game is selling well outside of the US.

“Overall the US and EU have been equally strong in sales. We have had 70,000 people playing at once across all platforms, with very similar distribution among PC, PS4 and Xbox,” he said. “What surprises us is the fact that sales outside of the US on the Epic Store have been so strong, with the US being only one-quarter of sales.”

Chalk one up for digital store competition. Steam may need to up their game this year. On a related note, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said that the store will stop exclusive deals if Steam changes its revenue-splitting policy.
