SDCC 2019: Natalie Portman Is The Next Thor

Last week, there was the not-so-shocking announcement of Taika Watiti and Chris Hemsworth coming back for a fourth Thor movie. Just now at San Diego Comic Con 2019, an actually shocking but also extremely exciting announcement has been made. After a long absence from the MCU, Jane Foster is finally coming back and this time, she’s bringing some thunder with her.

According to The Verge, Natalie Portman will become the next Thor in the fourth film titled Thor: Love and Thunder. Portman’s last memorable appearance was in Thor: The Dark World which was released about six years ago. Ever since then, her character is either just mentioned in dialogue or appeared in cut footage. Tessa Thompson will also be returning as Valkyrie.

In the comics, Jane becomes worthy of wielding Mjlonir after Thor himself was deemed unworthy. Seeing as how we got the “Still worthy” quip in Endgame, it seems that things might be different in the MCU but with all the multiverse and time heist shenanigans in mind, we can never really know what to expect.

The movie will be released on 5 November 2021 so it’s going to be a while before we see Jane Foster tossing Mjolnir around.
