Star Wars Episode 9 Tie-In Comic Respects Admiral Ackbar More Than The Last Jedi Did

Marvel is currently publishing Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – Allegiance, which is a miniseries meant to bridge the events of 2017’s Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi and the upcoming Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of The Skywalker.
The second issue of the four-issue miniseries recently came out, and it’s clear that tie-in comic is already respecting and paying tribute to Admiral Ackbar more than The Last Jedi ever did. The military commander is one of the most legendary characters in the Star Wars franchise, best known for his iconic line, “It’s a trap!” in 1983’s Star Wars Episode VI: Return Of The Jedi.
However, that didn’t stop director Rian Johnson and the writers of The Last Jedi from killing him unceremoniously (and off-screen at that), without even sparing just a minute for a line or two to even acknowledge the death of such a beloved character in the movie’s 152-minute runtime.
Fans were understandably mad over this (and that’s not even mentioning The Last Jedi‘s other problematic faults). This sentiment was even echoed by Ackbar actors Tom Kane (see video below) and Mark Adair Rios, as well as The Last Jedi movie editor Bob Ducsay.

Disney and Lucasfilm have already started to remedy that mistake by paying a proper tribute and goodbye to Admiral Ackbar in the Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – Allegiance miniseries.
In the second issue, General Leia Organa, Rey, Rose Tico, and C3-PO travels to late Admiral Ackbar’s home planet, Mon Cala, to ask for assistance in the war against the First Order. However, they are met with scorn and hostility by the Mon Calamari, who blame the Resistance for Admiral Ackbar’s death and have grown weary from decades of war with the Empire.
The only Mon Calamari who greeted them warmly was none other than Admiral Ackbar’s son, named Aftab. He brings General Leia Organa to a local shrine/monument in remembrance of the deceased Admiral Ackbar. She then recounts her last memories of Admiral Ackbar, saying that she wished they could have brought his body home.
Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is slated to release on 20 December 2019. In the meantime, re-watch the most recent trailer below.
