Kakuchopurei’s Best of 2019: The Outer Worlds
By Burhan ZamriVerified|December 18, 2019|0 Comment
Obsidian Entertainment is a well-known name in the RPG market. They’re famous for making hit games such as Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Pillars of Eternity, and Fallout New Vegas; all of them are regarded as hits.
As you can imagine, any game they do after that needs to live up to these. Thankfully, The Outer Worlds does that.
I’m convinced that this is possibly their best game yet because it’s untethered by corporate obligations; the same kind of overseers they’re making fun of in this space quest.
But really; the true star of The Outer Worlds is its universe. It takes place in a distant futuristic setting where giant companies literally own everything. For example, workers are not allowed to die because that means the company’s productivity goes down so family members or close friends must pay a penalty for every dead employee.
In terms of its RPG-ness, The Outer Worlds does a great job of making sure you can always find solutions regardless of the stats you invest in. You can shoot, sneak, and negotiate your way through almost every situation the game puts you in. You’ll also greatly appreciate the ability to respec your character almost anytime you want.
Similar to most games in the same genre, The Outer Worlds encourages replayability with its multiple endings and methods of completing questlines. I’m still eager to go back and replay the game for at least two more times to see the different outcomes.
It also helps that the game looks really good. You haven’t lived until you’ve seen the garish views of Monarch or the moon-esque vistas and cold dead space of Scylla.
