ICRC Teams Up With Fortnite For Unique Mode Where Players Save Lives
By Alleef Ashaari|January 20, 2020|0 Comment
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and Epic Game’s Fortnite has teamed up for a special but unconventional game mode in the battle royale game. The Liferun mode lets players save lives instead of taking them.
It was introduced at a streaming event in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday morning (AEDT) by three popular Fortnite streamers; Dr. Lupo, One Shot Gurl and Lachlan Power on Monday morning.
This is all part of an effort to raise awareness on the reality of violence and conflict amongst gamers, as well as highlight four core activities the ICRC is carrying out in its operations in more than 80 countries.
In Fortnite Liferun mode, there are four main objectives for players to accomplish; including to heal civilians, rebuild essential infrastructure, remove mines and distribute aid as fast as possible.
Speaking with Channel News Asia, ICRC director of communications and technology Jennifer Hauseman said:
“Video games have been mainstream entertainment and social platforms for a long time,
and we know that many gamers are also current, past or future soldiers, army officers, armed group members, CEOs of companies, lawyers and political leaders.
We need to talk to them in a smart and engaging way to explain that civilians suffer greatly in conflict.”
In order to play the Fortnite Liferun mode, you only need to head to the website here or play by inserting the code ‘1992-1013-9260’ into the game. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
