Miss Suikoden? Then This Upcoming JRPG Might Fill That Void [Update]
Update #1: The Kickstarter is live now. It’s already reached half of its goal at this time of typing.
Update #2: The game’s Kickstarteris now at US$2.2 million with 21,402 backers behind the project.
If you’re a fan of Konami’s Suikoden RPG series before Konami, well, became Konami, you’re in luck.
The key members behind the series will be launching a Kickstarter for a spiritual successor called Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes next Monday on 27th July and will last until 28th August (PST time).
Eiyuden Chronicle will be a JRPG with a 2.5D visual style, as well as giving you the opportunity to recruit up to 100 unique heroes to recruit in your party. Also, you’ll be managing a fort as a base of operations. Battles will be turn-based and feature up to six party members, while boss battles will change perspectives ala duels in Suikoden. Basically it’s emulating the winning formula that Konami was lucky to have before, well, you know (via IGN)…
Who is behind the project? The game’s original writer Yoshitaka Murayama, who will be overseeing the project. The game’s character design, system design, and direction will be handled by other ex-Suikoden team members. These developers will be under a studio banner called Rabbit & Bear.
As far as we know, the Kickstarter goal will be US$500,000. The page isn’t up yet, but I’m pretty confident it’ll blow past that. There are way too many Suikoden fans out there in Asia who need their 2.5D hero-recruiting and duelling fix.
Update: And we were right! It’s been barely a day and the Kickstarter is at US$2.2 million.
The game will be out Fall 2022 for PC. Console versions will be added as part of the Kickstarter’s stretch goals. In the meantime, check out the artwork of the cast and a preview of the 100 heroes you’ll be recruiting below.
