Overwatch League: NYXL Wins Five Map Thriller Against Seoul Dynasty
By Kenn Leandre|March 15, 2018|0 Comment
The battle at the top of the Overwatch League standings saw the New York Excelsior repeat their Stage 1 results as they defeated the Seoul Dynasty over five sets earlier today. It was a battle of wits and countering counter attacks as both teams implemented strats rarely associated with them in the past. Known for their patient gameplans, the Dynasty were the aggressor in most parts while NYXL whom many see as the more aggressive among the Overwatch League teams found themselves on the defense more than they are accustomed to. With the win, the NYXL all but secured their spot in the Stage playoffs baring a catastrophic slump in their following three matches.
Starting strong by eking a hard fought win on Hanamura despite being on the back foot in terms of time bank twice, their star player was Libero lit up the kill feed, topped by a 5K with Genji. The Dynasty hit back with a strong showing on Nepal as they won the map 2-1 to even the overall score 1-1 heading into half-time. Dynasty’s decision to play their game a little more on the aggressive side while emphasizing on protecting Fleta’s angles and restricting Saebyeolbe’s flanking routes played dividends as they won the third match on Hollywood.
However, Dynasty’s decision revert to their standard reactive stance on the fourth map, Watchpoint Gibraltar bit them back as the NYXL found a way back to halt the payload push for a map win thus forcing the tie-breaker map on Ilios which went in NYXL’s favor. At the end, the Seoul Dynasty were left to rue the missed chances to wrap up the tie and ultimately seal the all important win as they now prepare for Sunday’s cracker of a match against another all-Korean team, and their long-time rivals since the APEX days, the boys of London Spitfire.
