These Were The Best-Selling & Most Covered Games In 2020

2020 hasn’t been a good year for many due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the games industry managed to thrive and boom, as more people stayed at home and spent their free time indoors with gaming.
According to statistics collected by GamesIndustry.biz and MarketWatch from various reputable sources, the games industry is was collectively worth a whopping US$174.9 billion worldwide.
That’s more than the global movie and North American sports industries combined, as well as a 19.6 percent increase from 2019. Mobile games alone made US$86.3 billion, thereby being the highest contributor, followed by consoles at US$51.2 billion and PC at US$37.4 billion.
FIFA 21 was the best-selling game in the UK, while Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War sold the best in the U.S.
Over in Japan, Animal Crossing New Horizons was the best-selling champion. Impressively, Nintendo Switch exclusive also entered the top ten games of both the UK and U.S.
The most Googled game in 2020 was also one of the unexpected and biggest breakout hits of the year; Among Us. Many people played the game on their phones and computers, including a record-breaking live stream by New York U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

The other most Googled game of 2020 is the other breakout multiplayer game of the year; Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout. Both of these games prove that more and more people are relying on multiplayer games for their social fix now that many are practising self-quarantine.
Despite the popularity of Among Us and Fall Guys Ultimate Knockout, the most-covered game in 2020 was Fortnite with more than 75,000 articles online.
This is followed by two of the most highly-anticipated single-player games of 2020; Cyberpunk 2077 (more than 72,000 articles) and The Last Of Us Part 2 (more than 57,000 articles).
