Are We Getting A PC Version Of Red Dead Redemption 2?

Rockstar’s latest is out now for PS4 and Xbox One. But where’s the PC version? Well, it may be coming if this report from Rockstar Intel is anything to go by.

According to files inside the Red Dead Redemption 2 companion app, there are multiple references to the PC, graphics options and resolution types. The app contained a number of parameters within its files, including:

  • PARAM_companionAutoConnectIpPC
  • PARAM_Oculus
  • CommandIsPcVersion(void)    000000000166A12C

In addition, there are also numerous references to the game’s graphics options like temporal anti-aliasing, resolution of water reflections, shadow quality, and particle quality. While these might just be for a desktop version of the companion app, the aforementioned Oculus, graphics, and “PcVersion” lines mean that it could be prepping up for a full-fledged PC version of the game.

Our Thoughts

Rockstar won’t comment on this so soon, but we do hope our PC brethren will get their version of RDR2 soon enough. Here are some strong cases for a PC version:

  • It’ll make Rockstar a lot more money. 12 million Steam digital copies were sold according to recent Steam analytics (via PC Gamer). Of course, the actual figures are higher since there’s also the physical copies of GTA 5 to consider.
  • It’ll take at least half a year for RDR2 to be on PC. For comparison, GTA 5 came out 17 months after the PS3/Xbox 360 version, while GTA 4 came out 7 months after the Xbox 360 version.
  • A PC version of the game was listed on LinkedIn for a Rockstar programmer job listing. It could be a typo though.

Our review isn’t up yet (we’re still on it, don’t worry) but in the meantime, you should check out our hints and tips section to sort out your cowpoke adventure if you’re playing the console versions.
