That Guy Who Played Johnny Cash & Commodus Is Going To Be The Joker

Joaquin Phoenix has been going places since his early movie career back in the early 80s. He’s renowned for his work in Gladiator as an evil Roman emperor, the main character in Walk The Line, and that one awkward geek who wanted to f- I mean date his OS in Her.

You can now add “Clown Prince of Crime” on his resume. Hollywood Reporter confirmed (via CinemaBlend) that Joaquin Phoenix will be playing the Joker in his very own origin story, with the script penned both by Todd Philips and Scott Silver. Martin Scorsese will be producing the film. Woah.

Here’s the official movie description from Warner Bros.

An exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.

Also related: San Diego Comicon will also have a DC Movies showcase when the show floor is open from 19-22 July (PST). We might get more info regarding the new Joker origin film alongside new details on Wonder Woman 1984, Aquaman, and Shazam!. We might also get an explanation on why this film is in the works when there’s another DC Extended Universe tie-in Joker film starring Jared Leto.

We’ll get our answers somehow next week. Stay tuned to Kakuchopurei for more about the Joker this week.
