Capcom To Explore More Remakes After RE2 Next Year
Capcom’s in a pretty good spot right now, so much so that it’s in the black. And they’re thinking of maybe exploring more remakes in the future.
Since the company announced the Resident Evil 2 remake, slated for January 2019, they’re feeling confident about its performance and may follow it up with other remakes and re-releases of classic Capcom IPs.
Here’s a blurb from the investor Q&A portion:
“Further, regarding remakes and re-releases of titles in our back catalog, we expect to explore these further with a variety of properties as a part of our strategy to utilize our library of IP.”
If you ask me, I’m not sure how to feel about this. The reason why Capcom was in a slump in the past was that of its reliance on sequels to series that do not need it, or tonally-different spin-offs. The fact that they want to remake past games in this style is just them going back into their IP well but with a shiny new coat of paint, albeit one that has a reworked game engine.
But hey, if it helps to introduce a new generation of gamers to the wonders of Dino Crisis, Forgotten Worlds, and maybe Lost Planet, then there’s hope for the future. Just don’t go overboard with it.
