Overwatch League: DC Adds Coaching Staff, Danteh Leaves Shock for Outlaws

The Overwatch League personnel merry go round continues as more team announcements and player movements were made. A few days back, to the *cough* shock of many, the San Francisco Shock announced the departure of their DPS main, Dante “Danteh” Cruz to the Houston Outlaws via trade for GG Esports Academy main tank player Yoo ‘Smurf’ Myeong-hwan.

Having to compete for playing time with Sintaraa at San Francisco, Danteh’s move to the Outlaws who are in dire need of a Tracer player seem like a perfect move. Known for his deep pool of DPS heroes and clutch plays regardless of hero used, Danteh’s inclusion to the Outlaws should solve the Texas-based team’s issues surrounding DPS starters.

Outlaws’ main tank, Austin ‘Muma’ Wilmot took a swipe at suggestions that he’s flexing to that role as he welcomed his new teammate:

No news either on whether the best social media production by any Overwatch League team, #DeepThoughtsWithDanteh will continue via Houston Outlaws. However, we leave you with this memorable episode:

Meanwhile in DC, the yet-to-be-named franchise just announced the appointments of two new coaching staff; Assistant Coach Kyoung Ey Molly “AVALLA” Kim from Meta Bellum and Analyst Mikael “mkL” Skjønhaug from Last Night’s Leftovers.

The addition of AVALLA is a historic one as she becomes the first ever female to join an Overwatch League team coaching staff, having made her mark with OpTic Academy and Meta Bellum in their North American and Korean Contenders playoff run. She will be working alongside the recently-appointed Head Coach, Hyeong-seok “WizardHyeong” Kim, formerly of the NYXL. Mikael “mkL” Skjønhaug worked alongside AVALLA at OpTic Academy and was also analyst for Last Night’s Leftovers in their playoff run.

While they are yet to name any players, team Washington’s decision of picking up Korean-speaking Head and Assistant Coaches suggests that they intend to pick up an all-Korean team. WizardHyeong ‘s would want to replicate his success with an all-Korean setup after setting up the New York team which mostly consisted of former LW Blue players.

A few teams come to mind; perhaps AVALLA’s previous team, Meta Bellum or even better, Overwatch Contenders Korea Season 2 Champions, the highly popular RunAway. Whichever team they choose to sign up, we have a feeling that DC would be challenging for the Stage and Seasonal championships once Season 2 kicks off.
