Remember The Amalur: THQ Nordic Picks Up Kingdoms of Amalur IP

Good news for you Kingdoms of Amalur fans out there, especially our guest podcaster Nadine from the Philippines.

THQ Nordic, the guys who have the Darksiders and Timesplitters license, has purchased the rights to Kingdoms of Amalur and the cancelled MMO Project Copernicus from developer 38 Studios. And yes, there’s a chance that there might be a sequel as THQ Nordic will be evaluating its viability for “sequels and new content”.

You guys & gals remember Kingdom of Amalur, right? That 2012 action RPG from 38 Studios and Big Huge Games? Personally, I thought it was a huge bag of loot-hoarding fun since it put a nice spin in the Diablo action RPG-esque formula. And goddamn the chakram-tossing never gets old.

Problem was, despite the favourable reviews, the studio declared itself bankrupt after it missed a loan payment that dragged the company into a lengthy legal battle with the state of Rhode Island. Yes, an entire American state. Wasn’t game news fun 6 years ago?

In any case, let’s hope THQ Nordic finds the best action RPG devs money can find to give Amalur fans the sequel they deserve. And hopefully not put another state in a financial deficit with its production & marketing costs.
