Check Out This Award-Winning, Hilarious and Meta World of Warships Ad
By Alleef Ashaari|December 10, 2018|0 Comment
Every year YouTube holds its Ad of the Year Contest, and in this year’s “Ad that Frees Your Inner Gamer†category, World of Warships has won first place despite going up against other ads for popular games like Fortnite and League of Legends.
The World of Warships ad won the award probably thanks to its tongue-in-cheek nature, going full-on meta. Running at only 43 seconds in duration, the narrator must have had the best time of his life with the ad, asking viewers “why the hell they haven’t played” the free-to-play Wargaming naval multiplayer online game.
Want to avenge the Titanic? The game lets you shoot an iceberg. The award-winning ad features a hilarious Yamato running gag, and also literally tells you what the game’s core gameplay is like (shooting ships and most of the time, missing and hitting the water instead).
“World of Warships is often dominantly perceived through its strategic and historical angle,†said World of Warships Product Marketing Director Yan Emanov. “While we are proud of these aspects, our game offers much more to players. Therefore, with this video, we wanted to put more emphasis on its fun and entertaining side.â€
Check out the “You Haven’t Played World of Warships Yet?!†ad below to see what the fuss is all about.
