The Spider-Man PS4 Comic Will Be The Beginning of a Marvel Gamerverse

After its initial debut into Marvel Comics thanks to the currently-ongoing Spider-Geddon crossover event, Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man PS4 will be receiving its own official comic book adaptation. The six-issue miniseries is slated to release sometime in March 2019.

Written by Dennis Hopeless and illustrated by Michele Bandini, the upcoming Spider-Man PS4 comic will be titled, Marvel’s Spider-Man: City at War. It will not only retell the events of Marvel’s Spider-Man but also expand on unseen moments and bonus behind-the-scenes content by the folks at Insomniac.

“While creating the game, the writing team’s goal was to pay homage to Spider-Man’s rich history while also shaking things up to keep players on the edge of their seats,” said Marvel Games Executive Creative Director Bill Roseman. “Now we’re thrilled to see our game’s original story swing full circle and come to life in the pages of this all-new comic book series in the Mighty Marvel Manner!”

I’ve read many comic book adaptations of MCU and Star Wars movies published by Marvel Comics. Most of them offer almost nothing new in terms of content, satisfied to just rehashing the events of the source material.

However, the Spider-Man PS4 comic miniseries will probably be different. That’s because Marvel is planning Marvel’s Spider-Man: City at War to be the first in a series of new stories from what they are officially dubbing the Marvel Gamerverse.

The potential of a Marvel Gamerverse is exciting, especially if it means more high-quality Marvel games in the future. On the other hand, it might also mean that Marvel is only planning to expand the Marvel Gamerverse exclusively with comics. We’ll have to wait and see what’s in store for this brand new Marvel Gamerverse. The Avengers Project perhaps?

In the meantime, feast your eyes on the cover of the first issue by Clayton Crain below (Source: Press Release via Newsarama).
