Splinter Cell Is Not Dead, According To Ubisoft
Despite what’s been going on with Ubisoft and their plethora of Far Cry and live service shooter games, the adventures of Sam Fisher are far from over.
According to IGN’s latest Unfiltered podcast episode featuring Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot, he said the company has plans for the Splinter Cell series. He answers the question concerning the series’ long-dormant state.
“When you create a game, you have to make sure you come with something different enough from what you did before.
Now, there are some people looking at, ah, the brand, taking care of the brand. So at some point, you will see something. I can’t say more than that.”
The backlash towards Splinter Cell: Blacklist was also partly the reason why the series hasn’t been touched. Fans were vocal and said “don’t change this, don’t do that”, which made the team “anxious” about working on a follow-up. Guess we’ll be waiting a few more years for a new Splinter Cell game then.
The rest of the show discussed about Yves and his brother playing the early games as well as what’s going on with Beyond Good & Evil 2, which frankly is looking a little worrying as it is mimicking a slow MMORPG-like thing.
