Shanghai Dragons Takes The Overwatch League Stage 3 Finals Crown
By Alleef Ashaari|July 15, 2019|0 Comment
The Overwatch League Stage 3 Finals are over, and the Shanghai Dragons have taken the crown with a SHOCKING win over their opponents, the San Francisco Shock (get it?). With a close 4-3 win, the Dragons won their first stage championship to bring home a whopping $200,000 in prize money.
It didn’t start that way for the Shanghai Dragons. The Chinese team initially began the stage three playoffs as the eighth seed in the bracket. They only barely managed to secure a coveted spot in the final playoff at the Overwatch League Atlanta Homestand.
However, they made a triumphant comeback during the stage playoffs, beating all three of the league’s top teams in the process. This includes the New York Excelsior in the quarterfinals, Vancouver Titans and most recently, the San Francisco Shock.
In an interview with dotesports, Shanghai Dragons main tank and team leader Noh “Gamsu†Yeong-jin said:
“I’ve been a pro gamer for the past five years and this is the only time that I’ve actually won a big tournament… in my career.
I want to thank all the fans, all the people who are supporting the Shanghai Dragons… thank you so much.â€
It’s been a miraculous turn of events for Shanghai Dragons, as they started the Overwatch League’s first-ever season with a 0-40 score, which means that they didn’t even win a single match. Nobody from the original roster has remained on the team since, but fans must still be delighted for their team.
The Overwatch League Season Stage 4 is set to begin later this month on 25 July 2019.
