The Rescuers

What Is It? A film about an international mouse organization that helps abducted victims around the world at large. Stars Bob Newhart as Bernard and Eva Gabor as Miss Bianca, fresh out of their 60s and 70s TV careers of their lives. Based on a series. It’s overshadowed by its far superior sequel.

Why It Needs Remaking? Exhibit #B in Disney’s descent into mediocrity. We like the idea of a ragtag mice duo who help stop crimes and rescue children who aren’t noticed by the law at large. What we don’t like is having obnoxious actors and kid actresses voicing them for the majority of the film, as well as a slow plodding dullard of a plot. When I see a title called Rescuers, I expect a lot of high-flying theatrics and death-defying stunts to go with the “rescuing”.

Not…this.

Which is why a remake of The Rescuers is sorely needed. The mice duo vs evil treasure hunter plot with a kidnapped/missing kid to tie it all up is fine, as well as the bayou setting. Why not add in a Class 5 hurricane and a ton more alligators, alongside awesome 3D CGI that mimics the breathtaking vistas and scenes of Rescuers Down Under to seal the deal? It’ll make for a great summer blockbuster and it’ll be a film both kids and parents can enjoy together.
