Cancer Patient Lives Long Enough To Play Final Version Of Borderlands 3

The world is full of pain and suffering but sometimes, there’s something good that happens.

Back in June, we covered a story about a Borderlands fan named Trevor Eastman who shared on Reddit the heartbreaking news of being diagnosed with Stage 4 esophageal, stomach, and liver cancer in June 2018. According to the doctors, he only had one year to live.

In that Reddit post, he voiced out his wish of wanting to play Borderlands 3 early. Not only did he get to play a preview build of the game, Gearbox also dedicated a gun entirely to him, naming it the Abundant Dangerous Trevonator. It’s a legendary Maliwan shotgun that can switch between Corrosive and Cryo damage.

The gun was formerly named the Compressing Trevonator in the game’s preview build. It still maintains its special description of the “Trev is gunna get you!” quote. The final version also gets a new skin as you can see above.

In his latest Reddit post, Trevor has updated that he received a digital code for the final version of Borderlands 3 from his contact at Gearbox. Despite all the issues surrounding Borderlands 3‘s reviews, it’s still very heartwarming to know that the game will be appreciated by its fans, especially Trevor.

Concerning his illness, it’s sad to hear that things are not getting any better for Trevor. He states that he can no longer “really eat anything” without throwing up. Protein shakes are all he can consume now. Wanting to enjoy his final days, he chose to get hospice care within the comfort of his own home. Currently, he is currently put on constant morphine drip to help him handle the unbearable pain of cancer.

At Kakuchopurei, we are both heartbroken and inspired by what Trevor is going through. It touches our heart to see Gearbox and the Borderlands community show so much love and support to Trevor and we hope that he will be able to spend the rest of his days enjoying Borderlands 3 as much as possible.
