Power Rangers & Aquaman Actor Will Be In Malaysia’s First Mandarin Netflix Show

The past few years have been great to Ludi Lin‘s career. In 2017, he played Zack Taylor AKA the Black Ranger in the Power Rangers reboot movie. The next year he worked alongside Jason Momoa in Aquaman. The future is pretty bright too as he’s been chosen to play Liu Kang in the 2021 Mortal Kombat film.

While waiting for Ludi to dish out some fatalities, Malaysian fans will be pleased to know that he’ll be appearing in a supernatural romance set in 19th century Melaka. It’s an original Netflix production called The Ghost Bride, based on the best-selling novel by Malaysian author Yangsze Choo.

The show actually has a mix of several genres. It’s got elements of horror, romance, and even mystery. It’s about a woman who’s married off to a deceased son of a reputable family and finds herself traveling to the world of the dead to solve a murder.

What’s cool about this show is that it’s Malaysia’s first Chinese-language Netflix original production. It’s co-directed by two very reputable Malaysian directors Quek Shio Chuan (Guang) and Ho Yuhang (Mrs. K). According to them, the crew behind the show is 90% Malaysian.

During the show’s recent press conference at Kuala Lumpur, Ludi revealed that he actually didn’t know about the whole “ghost bride” cultural practice until he got involved in the show.

“Just like me, you’ll come to realise that it’s such an amazing romantic thing, that’s not actually scary at all. To imagine that you can still love someone after they pass, forever really means forever.”

– Ludi Lin

In his personal Twitter account, Ludi expressed that he enjoyed working in Malaysia. One of the things that pleased him was working together with a diverse group of people from various places. Aside from the Malaysian crew, the show was also made with the help of talented people from Taiwan, the US, and other countries.

The Ghost Bride is coming to Netflix on 23 January 2020. Of course, the show is in Chinese but don’t worry if you’re not good with subtitles, there’s also an English dub. Check out the show’s trailer here:
