Nintendo Isn’t Worried About Next-Gen PlayStation & Xbox Machines

One does wonder if the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will affect the sales of the Nintendo Switch when they launch in Holiday 2020. According to the Big N themselves, it probably won’t make a dent.

According to a recent Q&A session from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa during an investors meeting last week, the company is aware of the change in the environment. He explained that there isn’t much audience crossover between the PS5, the Xbox Series X, and the Nintendo Switch (via VGC).

“We will explain the specific figures for the next fiscal year in our next fiscal year announcement, but I think there will certainly be a change in the environment as new products of our competitors appear. [W]e do not believe that the business trends of other companies will have a significant impact on our business.”

In related news, Furukawa said that the Switch is about halfway through its life cycle, with the Big N not planning on releasing a new console until 2023. Which is fair, given that the Switch recently raked in big lifetime sales numbers as of late.

I’m still waiting for that new Metroid Prime sequel though, so please hop to it.
