Taiwanese Horror Game Devotion Is Now Preserved By Harvard
By Melvyn Tan|February 24, 2020|0 Comment
Horror game Devotion was removed from Steam last year, after a controversy involving art assets that mocked Chinese president Xi Jin Ping. While the game still remains unavailable for purchase, there is some good news at least, as Harvard University has made the move to preserve the game.
Taiwanese developer Red Candle Games announced on Facebook (via PC Gamer) that Devotion and their previous horror game Detention will be added to the Harvard-Yenching Library. The library’s website describes it as being the “largest university library for East Asian research outside of Asia”.
“It is an incredible honour which belongs to not only Red Candle but also our supporters/players worldwide”, Red Candle Games wrote.
They added that the studio “will keep going and hopefully, in the future, we could share more works with you all”.
While it’s a shame that Devotion can no longer be bought and acquired through legal means, it’s good to see it receive Harvard’s attention and preservation. We declared the game to be one of the best video game titles of 2019.
